The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Gillespie County is a restored historic church and cultural landmark in Fredericksburg, Texas. Originally established in 1887, it preserves the history, faith, and legacy of the African American families who helped shape Gillespie County. Today, the site welcomes visitors of all backgrounds for worship, education, special events, and historical tours.

Yes. While the church preserves its historic roots, it also serves as a non-denominational Christian worship space for quarterly gospel and other special services, community gatherings, and events throughout the year.

Absolutely! Visitors are welcome to explore the church, learn about its rich history, and experience one of Fredericksburg's most significant historic landmarks. The buildings are generally open for self guided tours Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm.

The 1877 Schoolhouse is a replica of the original one-room school that educated African American children in Gillespie County from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. The schoolhouse honors the community's commitment to education and serves as an important part of the site's historical experience and houses the African American Museum, the first of its type in Gillespie County.

At the African American Museum, visitors discover the powerful stories of the families who lived, worked, worshipped, and built Gillespie County. The museum features rotating displays of historical artifacts, photographs, and educational exhibits, while also hosting special guest exhibitions that highlight multicultural history and shared heritage.
